Services We Offer
Quit Smoking During Hospitalization
If you’re a patient at Lehigh Valley Hospital, we’ll come to your bedside to help you become smoke-free
Heart disease, cancer and respiratory problems are just some of the ailments caused by smoking. Often it takes a serious illness that leads to time spent in the hospital to make people realize it’s time to quit smoking. At Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network, we’ll help you take the first step toward living a tobacco-free life during your time spent with us.
If you’re hospitalized and you’re ready to quit, our tobacco cessation experts offer education materials as well as tips and strategies for quitting. Nicotine replacement products, such as the nicotine patch, gum or lozenge, will help reduce any cravings or withdrawal symptoms while you’re hospitalized. Use of prescription medications or a nicotine inhaler may also be used. If you’re using other tobacco products, like chew, dip or snuff, our experts will provide similar recommendations and options.
To receive a consultation with a smoking cessation expert, ask your physician, nurse or respiratory therapist. If you’ve recently quit, we’ll help you deal with your coping skills, teach you a few new tips and keep you motivated.
If you would like additional support after you leave the hospital, all you need to do is tell us. A counselor from our Tobacco Treatment program will contact you after your discharge to help you stay tobacco-free. For your convenience, tobacco cessation services are available at all three Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network campuses.
